Studies on powdery scab of potato with special regard to the reactions of certain potato cultivars and clones.
1989
Eraslan F. | Turhan G.
Wart-like excrescences and cancerous lesions were typical symptoms on immature and mature tubers, respectively. Disease severity varied with potato genotypes but, in general, big tubers were affected more severely than smaller ones. Rots were typical root symptoms, warts on roots were not observed even in the most contaminated fields. Reactions of 15 potato cultivars and four clones to tuber infection were tested in naturally infected nurseries under highland conditions in the Aegean region of Turkey. According to the infection rates in terms of both tuber number and tuber weight of plots, cvs. 'Sakikiz', 'Isola', 'Aula' and 'Granola' were found to be the least, 81040.2, 'Baraka', 'Spunta' and '81035.15' the most susceptible genotypes, respectively. In early potatoes, produced in the lowlands of the region, tuber-borne inoculum that comes from the highland was significantly effective on the disease. But because of weather conditions, general disease incidence was very low.
