A study on phenotypic characteristic and seed production in Khasia pine seed orchard sought to find out family variation on growth characteristics. Pollen distribution was also studied for further evaluation on the quality of seed and seed orchard. 12-year old Khasia pine had the average value of height 6.58 m, lenght of clear bole 1.45 m, DBH> 15.19cm, diameter at ground level 19.06cm, bark thickness 1.45cm, branch number 41 branches, and crown diameter 4.54m. Variation in height, biggest branch diameter, and crown diameter between families were significant while within family only bark thickness and crown diameter were significant. As inthe case of reproductive growth, estimation on the production of female flower, male inflorescence, pollen and seed production per tree in the flowering years 1979 and 1980 was made. It was found out that the average number of female flower and male inflorescence were 53 and 93 flowers while average amount of pollen were 29.38 grams per tree. The average number of seed in mature cone was 45 seeds. Moreover, flower production in 1980 was observed to be more plentiful than those in 1979. Variation between families were significant but insignignificant differences was found in the case of variation within family. Morphological characteristic of cone, seed and wing were also studied. Seed quality was evaluated based mainly on the presence of empty seeds in a cone ranging between 38.765 and 73.89%. Selfing in a seed orchard was determined based on the possible gene flow (about 30% of the case). Seed orchard quality at Huey Bong was further evaluated to be grouped as acceptable graded seed orchard.
