Studies on some climatic factors [optimum daylength, temperature, rainfall] affecting the growth and yield of strawberry [Philippines].

Daylength affected significant increase on the cumulative leaf production in July, August and September and affected significantly runner production. Throughout the growing season, plants covered with polyethylene (transparent), exposed to sunlight and protected against rainfall produced the most number of leaves and runner but their flowering was delayed, a situation which affected fruit formation. The highest cumulative number and weight of fruits were obtained from plants exposed to 8-hr daylength. The high temperature in treatment involving the use of covering polyethylene favored leaf and runner production, prolonged the vegetative stage, and delayed flowering and fruit formation. Rainfall seemed to give mineral effect on the growth of strawberry so long as moisture was provided.
