Fifteen Holstein heifers were fed three diets differing in fiber source: solka floc (SF), corn cob (CC), and corn silage (CS). Due to the low mineral content of the fiber sources, diets SF and CC could be formulated to have low mineral content relative to using more natural ingredients. Experimental design was split plot in time. Mineral balance for Ca, P, Mg, K, Na and S, was determined after heifers had been consuming diets 30 and again after 60 days. In this trial diets were supplemented with minerals to meet National Research Council (1) requirements.
