Desarrollo de un modelo para la ganancia de peso de becerras Holstein en praderas de ballico perenne, (Lolium perenne L.).

A computer model was developed to simulate the weight increase of calves in rye grass (Lolium perenne L.) pasturing. The parameters used were: the available forage in the range pasture, its consumption and the usage of forage energy. Also an important factor was the live weight of the animals determined by the equation Yt + 1 = Yt + dt delta. The model is a deterministic type and was evaluated through out the data of three experiments of cattle grazing carried out in the Agricultural Experiment Station, Jaltomate, Aguascalientes, during 1982, 1983 and 1984. The number of animals per ha varied from 8 to 15, with initial weight of 153 to 188 kg. The simulations were worked out, starting with the production and forage quality, before the establishment of each grazing test. The confidence of the model was acceptable. For average values of net energy tabulated in the literature, the daily weight increases obtained by the model had a difference of 0.064 and 0.04 kg animal/day against the observed data. When the net energy was estimated by means of the detergent acid fiber in the forage, the difference was 0.085 and 0.05 kg/animal/day.
