In Campania a study carried-out for several years has led to the determination of 5 different avocado chance seedlings (Persea americana Mill.) that showed interesting bioagronomic characteristics. The plants called "Portici", "Sorrento II", "Battipaglia I" and "Battipaglia II" are all autofertile. Fruits harvesting starts in September-October for the chance seedling "Portici" and ends towards March-April for the other plants, they are all pear shaped; the size is medium-big; the flesh tasty and appetizing. Laboratory analyses on fruits have evidentiated on oil content not higher than 13,5%. Annual production is rather good for all the plants examined. A comparison between all the chance seedlings of avocado found in Campania and the cv "Fuerte" shows a certain amount of correlation among this cultivar and the chance seedling "Battipaglia I".
