Adaptability of rice varieties and good cultivation are important factors increasing rice yield. An experiment was conducted to study the yield potential and good plant density of promising lines of lowland rice at supra insus locations i.e. Tangerang and Indramayu, during the 1987/88, wet season, using a split plot design with three replications. The main plots were three promising lines of lowland rice: B4354g-Pn-3, B4354g-Pn-4, and B4354f-Mr-13-3, and the sub plots were seven plant densities: 25 cm x 33.3 cm (12 hills/m square), 25 cm x 25 cm (16 hills/m square), 25 cm x 20 cm (20 hills/m square), 25 cm x 16.7 cm (24 hills/m square), 25 cm x 14.3 cm (28 hills/m square), 20 cm x 20 cm (25 hills/m square), and 30 cm x 15 cm (22 hills/m square). The results indicated that there were no significant difference between promising lines and plant density on grain yield. The highest yield at Tangerang was 6.7 t/ha by B4354f-Mr-13-3 and at Indramayu was 4.2 t/ha by B4354g-Pn-3. The plant density of 25 cm x 14.3 cm increased the grain yield and significantly different with 25 cm x 33.3 cm but not significantly different with 20 cm x 20 cm and 30 cm x 15 cm. The number of panicle/m square was an important factor in increasing the grain yield.
