During 1995, field and laboratory investigations have been provided in order to establish interrelationship between nitrogen metabolism enzymes activities on seed yield and soluble protein content in soybeans. Activities of all three enzymes investigated (nitrogenase, nitrate reductase and glutamate dehydrogenase) were in negative correlation with seed yield, and in positive correlation with soluble protein content. Path-coefficient analysis showed direct effect of nitrogenase activity to be positive on both investigated traits, since direct effects of nitrate reductase and glutamate dehydrogenase were negative. The results of investigations showed that nitrogenase activity has primary role in nitrogen metabolism in soybean plants.
