The productive behaviour of lactating sows and suckling piglets raised in different types of farrowing pens was studied. Among studied pens, at variant I of 2.20 x 1.70 m, piglets from adult sows performed 7.8 per cent higher gain and 6.4 per cent lower mortality compared to the variant of 2.00 x 1.70 m (II). The number of down-up actions sows were higher at variant II and pointed out a shorter time for rest. There is a positive effect of the longer farrowing pen for adult sows. The studies on primiparous sows, raised in pens with a constant length (2.0m) and a variable width (1.50; 1.70 and 2.0 m) led to the conclusion that pen of 2.0/1.70 m satisfied the requirements of primiparous and piglets. The pen type had no significant influence on microclimate of farrowing house.
