The results of research on nutrient runoff and its isolation from agricultural land are summed up in the present paper. The influence of wetlands on the nutrient runoff isolation has been investigated. A new monitoring site "Mellupite" has been established and the first monitoring results have been analysed. Several hydrological models have been developed simulating soil moisture regime as well as surface and subsurface runoff depending on meteorological observations. Model METQ 96 can be used to calculate the probable maximum flood on the Daugava HPP cascade. Design problems of low capacity waste water treatment plants have been investigated. A method has been developed for the evaluation of moisture conditions on agricultural lands.
