This study was carried out to investigate on the ruminal degradability of various energy sources namely corn meal, cassava chip, broken rice and broken dehulled rice. The arrangement was planned according to a 2x2x4x10 factorial arrangement in CRD (animal, roughage, energy and bag suspension). The degradation study was done by using nylon bag technique (in sacco) by suspending bags in the rumen of cattle and buffalo at 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 6, 12, 24 and 48 h-post feeding. The results suggest that rate of degradation (c) and asymwtote (a+b) ranked from highest to lowest as follows: cassava chip, corn, broken rice and dehulled rice, respectively. Degradabilities increase as time increased, at 48 h broken rice and cassava chip had highest values. The ruminal pH and NH-N concentrations were in normal ranges however TVFA were obtained in highest concentations in swamp buffalo particularly when fed on urea-treated rice straw as compared to untreated straw and cattle.
