Mungbean, CV U-thong 1 was grown in a series of pot experiments with varying amount of N, P and K. N concentration of mungbean seeds obtained from the experiments varied from 3.21-4.40 % (as % of DM). N application of 1 and 2 g/pot increased seed N content. However, N content in seed was not affected by P but K deficiency. Total amino acid composition of mungbean seed was mainly dependent on N content. Increasing N concentrations were associated with a slight decline in the concentration of cystine (g amino acid/16 g N), methionine, threonine and lysine. However, when expresses as mg amino acid/100 g DM, the concentration of all amino acid increased with increasing N content. A comparison of the amino acid pattern of mungbean protein with the standard FAO/WHO amino acid pattern indicated that cystine, methionine and threonine were limiting in mungbean seed. In contrast to N applications, the amino acid composition was only indirectly affected by P and K applications through its N concentration.
