Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the nutritive value of dried activated sludge, which is the biomass formed during the growth of microbes on a nutrient medium systematically aerated and obtained by biological cleaning of the biomass with running water. The result in experiment I indicated that feed efficiency of the birds tended to decrease with increasing levels of dietary activated sludge. Findings in experiment II did not yield significant differences in body weight gain and feed efficiency between birds fed diets containing sun-dried activated sludge and those fed diets containing sun-dried activated sludge plus 2.5% insoluble grit, 60 degrees Centigrade oven-dried activated sludge and 30-minute-autoclaved activated sludge. In experiment III, nitrogen utilization of birds tended to be improved by dietary addition of insoluble grit. Percentages of nitrogen utilized by birds fed diet containing activated sludge plus insoluble grit were found to be highest (54. 21 and 51.15% at 4 and 8 weeks of age respectively).
