A new method of estimating breeding efficiency in Friesian sahiwal crossbreds. Short communication.
1986
Deshpande K.S. | Ingole G.K.
The data on age at first and subsequent calvings of 878 Friesian x Sahiwal crossbred cows distributed over 10 years (1974-83) were obtained. The new method of estimating breeding efficiency was as below BE(%) = (n(365)+900) x 100 divided by TCD, where n = number of calving intervals, TCD = total calving days, i.e. from the date of birth to the date of last calving. Since the heritability of breeding efficiency was low, the genetic correlations of breeding efficiency with other traits were of less importance. The phenotypic correlations in general were low.
