The results from the trial with seed treatment clearly demonstrated that chlorpyrifos has a good effect on the cabbage root fly contrary to imidachloprid and 2 strains of nematodes. None of the control agents had any phytotoxic effect. Chlorpyrifos reduced the propagation of the cabbage root fly considerably and there was a strong dose-related effect on the number of pupae parasitized by Aleochara bilineata. Chlorpyrifos EC formulation had far better effect than the 2 tested CS formulations. There was no difference in effect of the 2 CS formulations which both demonstrated a clear dose related response. Carrying out these trials has clearly demonstrated a methodology which is very suitable and which very easily can be adapted to trials with other pests or diseases. It is possible to grow plants which are very uniform and therefore suitable for trials. It is possible to start an attack in close relation to plant development and to regulate the pressure of the pest as was the case with different numbers of eggs of the cabbage root fly. Pesticide treatments can be carried out at fixed times doses and methods which allow one to obtain reliable results.
