The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) highlights the importance of research in its Long-Term Higher Education Development Plan with its mandate to promote and enhance research capabilities of higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country. This study is a timely response to CHED's development plan of creating, promoting, and enhancing research culture among HEIs. In particular, it aimed to analyze the research productivity of the SUCs [State Universities and Colleges] in CALABARZON and understand the corresponding constraints of such with the aim of strengthening the research function of these institutions. The study covered five state universities and colleges, each representing the provinces in the CALABARZON Region, namely: Cavite State University (Cavite), Laguna State Polytechnic University (Laguna), Batangas State University (Batangas), University of Rizal System (Rizal), and Southern Luzon State University (Quezon). A total of 377 faculty members, school administrators, and research directors/coordinators composed the respondents of the study. Relevant secondary data were obtained from pertinent school records. Findings of this study are presented and discussed. Findings also suggest the need for the universities to have a strong faculty development program particularly encouraging its faculty to pursue graduate studies and undertake research to enhance their self-efficacy and research productivity.
