Use of canonical variety analysis for the multivariate assessment of hop cultivars (Humulus lupulus L.)
2008
Bocianowski, J. | Skomra, U.
Hop genotypes gathered in the collection are very important source of genetic variability. The most essential condition for their effective exploitation is recognition of phenotypic diversity of traits, which are taken into consideration in Breeding of new cultivars. Within these traits, the key role of morphological characteristics indirectly influenced the cone yield. In the years 2004-06, 25 hop genotypes were evaluated concerning four morphological characteristics: height of attachment of first cone bearing shoots, length of lateral shoots, length of internodes, coiling shoot index. The results were statistically analysed using multivariate methods. Multivariate analysis of variance demonstrated the significant differences between cultivars and years of study. The large efficiency of multivariate profile of studied hop cultivars was affirmed in the space of the first canonical varieties
