The quality of production in the coming lactation depends on the reproductive activity of cows postpartum. Elements of reproductive efficiency are: the emergence of the first ovarian cycle after childbirth, the first visible occurrence of estrus, conception rate from first insemination, number of inseminations required to fertility and the service period. It is known that negative energy balance in the period around childbirth acts negatively on the reproductive efficiency of cows. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of protein concentration, glucose, NEFA, BHB, bilirubine, cholesterol and urea on reproductive parameters of cows. The experiment was included 40 Holstein cow. The cows were divided into 4 groups according ovarial activities, the moment the obvious estrus, conception rate and length of service period. Reproductive activity was determined by regular rectal examination and observation of cows. Biochemical parameters were determined by laboratory, standard methods for semiautomatic analyzer. Blood was taken in the first, fourth and eight week after birth. The concentration of NEFA, BHB and urea in the first and fourth week after delivery was significantly lower (p is less than 0.01) in cows that have establish ovarian activity during the first thirty days after delivery. In these cows is significantly higher concentrations of cholesterol and glucose (p is less than 0.05) in the same period. Other parameters did not show statistical significance. The concentration of metabolites in periparturient period can predict the quality of the manifestation of estrus. The concentration of NEFA and BHB is lower (1 and 4 weeks) in cows with visible oestrus to 70 days postpartum. Cows that have established the estrus cycle in this period have a significantly higher concentration of protein and glucose (1 and 4 weeks) and significantly lower concentrations of urea (1, 4 and 8 weeks). There was no significant difference in the concentration of metabolites in cows that become pregnant after first insemination and in those where it was needed more repeat insemination. The concentration of metabolites can not be used to estimate the duration of the future service period.
