A group of 33 respondents were interviewed in order to study the consumers’ attitudes toward fruit consumption in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The study examined the main motivations and barriers to fruit consumption, and the attitudes of consumers about the importance of fruit for a balanced diet. The study included respondents from urban and rural areas within Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the study there have been used a method of in-depth interviews. The results showed that consumers do not consume sufficient amounts of fruit although they do believe so. Taste and pleasure are main motives for consumption. Fruit is not eaten enough outside the home and there are a number of barriers for increased consumption. There is a stereotype about heavy fruit consumers and none fruit consumers. Health aspects of the fruit consumption of fruits and role of fruits in a balanced diet is not sufficiently known to consumers in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
