The final result of anaerobic degradation of sludge is stabilized biomass, and gas mixtures – biogas. Biogas is the mixture composed of methane and carbon dioxide, and smaller amounts of nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen are present. Quantity and quality of produced biogas depends upon the quality of feeding sludge, or upon the total amount of volatile matter in it, and the degree of the sludge stabilization. The aim of this paper is to show the quantity and quality of biogas produced at the WWTP Subotica in the period from July to December 2011. year and its energy efficiency. The produced electricity is the main benefit of anaerobic sludge treatment, and analysis of conditions that lead to greater efficiency, greatly reduce the cost of purifying water by saving electricity.
