Epizootiological factors responsible for mass echinococcosis of sows

The aim of the paper is to point out to pig breeders that keeping dogs and pigs in cohabitation provides a direct way of transferring the parasites from the definitive to intermediate hosts. The paper essence is in specific epizootiology where the pig farm yard with the pregnant sows and gilts is all the time in the close contact with 10 dogs which are guardians of fish pond located within the common economy. Of these, 5 dogs are corded guards and the other five dogs are free circulate and responsible for reporting the presence of undesirable persons. Close to a distance of about 500 m there is a rural dump bound for throwing animal waste, dead animals and confiscates. The presence of echinococcus cysts in the livers were found in sows after slaughter. The animals were not showing the clinical symptoms in the previous period. Diagnostics and investigations were conducted in 2010 year in Mošorin (Serbia) on the economy which rears pigs and fish side by side. The dog corpological and the liver cysts examinations are performed on the Faculty of Science in Novi Sad (Serbia) using the light microscopy techniques. In the livers of the slaughtered sows were present up to 50 echinococcus cysts which invaded almost the entire liver parenchyma. Dog feces examination revealed the presence of Echinococcus granulosus eggs in all freeely circulate dogs. The parasites were not present in guard coded dogs because treatment with preventive dose of anthelmintic drugs what indicates that attention must focus on all the dogs that are in contact with sows so it will be organized their dehelmintisation. Also, it is necessary to provide animal waste services where the circulation of infective materials is not possible.
