The aim of this study was to highlight the importance of disinfection as a preventive measure in emergency situations, which carry out DDD teams in accordance with the legislation and the estimates of competent health services. There are concurrent, finally and preventive (prophylactic) disinfection. Depending on the means and methods which are applied, there are mechanical, physical and chemical disinfection. Emergency situations (natural disasters or military operations), can lead to disturbance of ecological and social balance, which causes an increased incidence of infectious diseases. Disinfection plays the important role in the chain of preventive measures in emergency situations. Especially important is disinfection of drinking water, for individual and for collective use. The activity of DDD teams in such situations requires qualification of their members for application all methods of disinfection, in accordance with the guide by the competent health services and legislation.
