This work gives an overview of the available literature data regarding bacterial and fungal degradation of the selected pesticides, with special focus on the degradation pathways since the incomplete degradation can lead to formation of products with higher toxicity or/and mobility than the original pesticide. The main aim of the investigation of applicability of the pesticide-degrading micro organisms for bioaugmentation, an emerging novel technology for remediation of soil and water contaminated with pesticides.
