The nature reserve Alúvium Žitavy represents a suitable environment for the development of wetland communities. Sediments are considered a qualitative indicator of the environment from the environmental point of view. According to the methodology used in the study area Aluvium Žitavy, only insignificant degrees of intensity of potential contamination can be set apart. The contamination issues from the sediments not polluted by risk chemical substances, without observable signs of antropogenic pollution, without negative effects on organisms up to sediments with documented presence of pollution. From among the contaminants present in the fore, a risk chemical element of cadmium emerged in particular. In sediment samples collected from 2007 to 2009 in the study area Aluvium Žitavy, we found the following concentrations of cadmium in the range 0.0121 to 1.284 mg per kg Cd of dry matter, mercury in the range of 0.0 to 1.362 mg per kg Hg of dry matter and lead in the range of 9.645 to 42.725 mg per kg Pb of dry matter. The analyses of the sediments samples were carried out (certificate no. 01871/101/1/2001) by the flow electrochemistry methods (EcaFlow 150GLP). It can be stated that concentrations of the observed chemical elements in sediments varied within the commonly accepted natural content (sometimes, unique anomalies of local importance have occurred there). From the works carried out it follows that neither rock environment nor soils of the area observed do not constitute an important source of contaminating elements for sediments.
