The article gives a statement and takes a look over the 50 year-history of development of forest biometry in Slovakia, its current status and trends of progress towards the future. The special attention is paid to its position concerning the forestry education and dissementation, as well as its utilization for the science, research and praxis. The article stresses the very close and mutually beneficial connection of biometry to informatics, forest inventory and monitoring as well as to forest growth modelling. The positive contributions of biometry to all of mentioned disciplines as well as challenges for further utilization are presented here. It also includes demonstrations from some authors new biometric solutions in the very actual problems like assessing the timber volume placed on the vehicles by means of two-phase sampling design, assessing the status of forest biotops by means of numeric quantificators, survey sampling of site conditions, biodiversity, and deadwood as well as the carbon stock in forest ecosystems.
