In this paper, there are presented the results of experimentally determined chemical composition of the combustible and the content of ash in dry mass of energy chips made of the wood species Salix viminalis - clones RAPF, ULV, ORM grown on plantations. The average chemical composition of the combustible of Salix viminalis chips is: carbon Cdaf = 49,51 %, hydrgen Hdaf = 6,41 %, oxygen Odaf = 43,47 % and nitrogen Ndaf = 0,61 %. In comparison with combustibles of wood of fully-grown broad-leaved trees, the combustible of chips of Salix viminalis grown on plantations is characterised by a slightly higher share of hydrogen and markantly higher share of nitrogen. The share of nitrogen in the combustible of chips of willow is 4 to 5 times higher than the content of nitrogen in the combustible of chips of Fagus sylvatica. From the environmental aspect, this fact manifests itself in the increased production of emission - concentration of nitrogen oxides NOx in combustion products, which is 1.5 to 2 times higher, than the valid value of emission limit in Slovakia for nitrogen oxides from the proces of biomass combustion. The share of bark in the range of values 16. 79 - 19.74 % in energy chips of individual clones does not exceed the upper limit according to STN 480058:2004. The increased share of bark in energy chips causes an increase of anorganic share of fuel, which means an increase of ash by approximately 50 % in comparison with the share of ash in wood of fully-grown broad-leaved wood species.
