Rural water supply and sanitation in Pakistan : lessons from experience
Pasha, Hafiz A. | McGarry, Michael G.
This report is based on a review of Pakistan's rural water supply and sanitation sector instigated by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the World Bank in September 1987. The review was carried out by specialists in different fields and the report summarizes their findings and describes six case studies of projects in Pakistan. These projects have successfully adopted appropriate technologies and encouraged community participation. The case studies are : the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme, the Baldia - The Busti Programme, Baluchistan Integrated Area Development Programme, the Mansehra District Development Programme, the Orangi Pilot Project and the Punjab Sanitation Programme. The report includes an analysis of the role of the private sector in Pakistan's rural water and sanitation programme and concludes with recommendations from the 1988 National Policy Conference on Rural Water Supply and Sanitation.
