East African Community - Second East African Railways and Harbours Administration Development Project

The proposed loan would assist the East African Railways and Harbours Administration (EAR&H) in financing its three year (1965-67) capital renewals and expansion program. EAR&H's current three-year program provides for the renewal and modernization of locomotive and wagon fleets, improvement of certain sections of the main lines, and for expanding the capacity of the ports of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam. It is designed to enable EAR&H to cope with the growing transport needs of the region. Approximately one-third of the total planned expenditure will be for expansion and the remainder for renewal and modernization of the existing installations and equipment.
