Brazil - Pira Thermal Power Project
China
The Pira Thermal Power Project for Brazil will provide a loan of $18.79 million to the Brazilian Traction, Light, and Power Company to cover the costs for the construction of the Piratininga generating station. Currently, there is a power shortage in Sao Paulo. Power has had to be rationed in the area. The Brazilian Traction, Light, and Power Company has been unable to provide enough power to meet demands in Sao Paulo. The project will help alleviate these problems by constructing a thermal generating station with a capacity of 160,000 kw. It will consist of two 80,000 kw hydrogen cooled generators. The addition of the new power station will help to reduce the power shortage in Sao Paulo and provide more power to meet current consumer demands.
