The objective of this present work was to quantify the vulnerabilities and to identify the main socioeconomic and environmental impacts in municipalities of the Cariri Paraibano. For that it was taken as base the municipalities of Cabaceiras and São João do Cariri, witch respective territorial areas are of 405.40 km2 and 697.60 km2, both located in the Microrregião Homogenea dos Cariris Velhos, in the semi-arid region of the State of Paraiba. The research was based on bibliography, on application of questionnaires to the rural families, on field works data and photographies. The results showed that the municipalities have high indexes of social, economic, technological to drought vulnerabilities, revealing that the rural families of them possess a very high global vulnerability. The main socioeconomic and environmental impacts are the rural exodus (abandoned houses) and the fertility loss of the soils (land degradation) due to irrational practices of the land use in all territorial extension of the studied municipalities. Those practices are responsible for the erosions that unchain the desertification process in severe stages, the silting up of the water resources etc.
