Increase of effectiveness of agricultural producing places high requirements to electrical supply of rural enterprises. Electricity supply system is determined not only with electric networks reliability, but with the quality of electric energy. Impulse voltage and surge voltage appear the least researched characteristics of electricity quality. Longevity of temporal surge voltage may last no more than 1 minute and voltage impulses can cause insulation breakdown of engines. Modern engines, equipped with sensitive electronics and microprocessors, overreact the impulse voltage and surge voltage and easily break down. Therefore, increase of reliability of protection of electrical equipment of rural electrical networks from voltage pulses and surge voltage appears a serious problem. The article analyzes the reasons of voltage pulses and temporary surge voltage during switching in the rural power networks. Combined device for the protecting of networks from voltage pulses and surge voltage is proposed. Electrical scheme of the protective device for voltage pulses and surge voltage protection is displayed. Practical use of application of the suggested device is substantiated.
