EXPERIMENTAL SURGERY AS SUPPORT FOR RESEARCH IN MONOGASTRICS ANIMALS | LA CIRUGÍA EXPERIMENTAL AL SERVICIO DE LAS INVESTIGACIONES EN ANIMALES MONOGÁSTRICOS

El objetivo de esta revisión fue realizar una breve descripción de los principales aspectos que se deben tener en cuenta para el uso de la cirugía experimental en los estudios de la fisiología digestiva de animales monogástricos de interés económico, principalmente aves, cerdos y conejos. Se destacan las consideraciones bioéticas para el manejo de animales en experimentación. Se describen las principales características que deben tener los animales para ser sometidos a una técnica quirúrgica, así como las principales técnicas de mayor uso en estas especies según lo que se desee investigar. Por último se tienen en cuenta el efecto que pudieran tener las diferentes canulaciones en la digestibilidad de nutrientes, principalmente en la utilización de la materia seca yel nitrógeno de la dieta. El perfeccionamiento de los mecanismos, técnicas quirúrgicas, así como los materiales que se utilizan para la elaboración de las cánulas, permitirá minimizar los riesgos y efectos negativos de éstos en la integridad de los animales y la digestibilidad de nutrientes

The aim of this review was to conduct a brief description of the main aspects to consider for the use of experimental surgery in studies of the digestive physiology of monogastric animals of economical interest, especially poultry, pigs and rabbits. Bioethical considerations are emphasized for the management of animals in experimentation. Describes the main characteristics required animals to be subjected to surgical technique, and the main techniques used in these species increased as desired to investigate. Finally the effect of different cannulation techniques on nutrient digestibility has been taken into account, especially on dry matter and nitrogen utilization in diets. The improvement of the mechanisms, surgical techniques and materials used for the development of stents, minimizes the risks and negative effects on the integrity of these animals and the digestibility of nutrients.
