Our contribution describes molecular genetic methods and simple colorimetric test used for the selection of spring barley hybrids with changed amylose and amylopectin ratio and reduced concentrations of phytic acid in grain. Parent varieties and hybrid lines including those with recessive alleles of the gene wax were used in field experiments during the years 2008-2010. Our results show that the use of molecular genetic methods enables to select new spring barley lines with genetically determined and certified grain quality together with improved agronomic characteristics.
