In the present study we determined the allele and genotype frequencies of lactoferrin gene polymorphism and estimated some parameters of population structure in a Holstein population of Antioquia, Colombia. Significant associations were found between the lactoferrin gene and protein percentage and somatic cell count, findings make it possible to approach an appropriate molecular marker-assisted selection (MAS).

En el presente estudio se determinaron las frecuencias alélicas y genotípicas de un polimorfismo del gen lactoferrina y se estimaron algunos parámetros de variabilidad genética en una población Holstein del departamento de Antioquia, Colombia. Se encontraron asociaciones significativas del gen de la lactoferrina con el porcentaje de proteína y con el recuento de células somáticas, hallazgos que hacen posible el planteamiento de un programa adecuado de selección asistida por marcadores moleculares (MAS).
