Positioning gender equity as an essential building block of sustainable development the paper "addresses a small number of gender-sensitive issues which need to be taken into account by policy-makers and stakeholders working on solutions to the urgent economic, political, social and environmental problems we face".The issues covered are:Human rights and self-determination - looking particularly at gender and human security and the role of women in conflict resolution.Poverty and development - focussing on gender and work, development assistance, structural adjustment and sources of finance for development.HealthGender and Environment - environmental equity, fresh water, energy consumption and protection policiesGovernance - participation, multi-stakeholder processes and gender mainstreamingThis paper is one of the UNED Forum papers in the series 'Towards Earth Summit 2002'.
