Evaluation of forage yield and nutritive value of silage corn hybrids

This study was conducted in experimental field of Seed and Plant Improvement Institute (SPII) in contribute with animal feed research department of Animal Science Research Institute of Iran (ASRI). Experimental design was laid out as a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. 22 maize hybrids and 3 control hybrids (KSC700, KSC704 and KSC720) were evaluated for their quantitative and qualitative traits of yield. All agronomical operations were done based on current methods in maize and forage research department of SPII. The traits such as number of leaves, plant and ear height, stem diameter, wet and dry forage yield were measured. For all hybrids some qualitative traits such as NDF, ADF, Crud Protein (CP), fat content percentage, ash and amount of Metabolizable energy were measured. Analysis of variance and means comparisons and also correlation coefficient between all the traits were calculated with SAS and Excel. The results showed that the Metabolizable energy in each Hectare of land (ME/hec.) of Hybrid No. 10 was significantly higher than others Hybrids (P0.05). Amount of CP per Hectare (CP/hec,) of Hybrid no 15 with 1537.8 had significantly differences with hybrid no 22 (898.6 CP/hec.). So Hybrids No. 10 and 15 are recommended for use by farmers.
