In order to exchange some alfalfa germplasms between Iran and other countries, eight foreign alfalfa varieties from America, Australia, Serbia, France and Sweden were compared with nine Iranian local alfalfa varieties. The experiment was conducted with these 17 allfalfa ecotypes in randomized complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications in four locations (Brojerd, Esfahan, Karaj and Khoy) for four years. Simple and combined analyses of variances were performed for three years data for every location. It can be observed from combined analysis that there were significant differences between ecotypes for fresh yield, dry yield and Plant height at the 1% probability level. Furthermore, it was revealed that the ecotype × location and ecotype × year interactions were significant at the 1% probability level. On the other hand, the interaction of ecotype × location × year was significant for fresh and dry forage yield and plant height. It can be observed that Sw-ponous, Mohajeran and Hamadani from Mashhad alfalfa ecotypes had higher fresh yield, SW-Ponous, Ghahavand, Mohajeran and Hamadani from Mashhad exhibited higher dry yield and Mohajaeran, Ghahavnd, SW-Ponous and Hamadani from Mashhad indicated higher height in comparison to other ecotypes. Several statistical methods and techniques were used to describe the GE interaction and to define stable ecotypes in relation to their fresh and dry forage yield. However, the results of these different stability methods were variable.
