Paraquat unacceptable health risks for users

This review considers the impacts of paraquat the chemical herbicide used by a large number of farmers and plantation workers. The paper finds that the pesticide causes daily suffering to an extremely large number of farmers and workers.Problems resulting from paraquat exposure are found around the world and the injuries suffered are debilitating and sometimes fatal. Associated chronic health problems are now being identified. The report concludes that alternatives are available and their implementation must become a priority, along with a phase out of paraquat.Key recomendations include:paraquat should be immediately prohibited in developing countriesas long as it continues to be marketed, paraquat's trade should be regulated at the international level within the PIC procedure the World Health Organization should reassess the hazard classification of paraquat
