During the active processes of this study, an analysis was initiated into the whole concept of what is Ecotourism and what are the components of ecotourism quality control. The potential for ecotourism was evaluated in the Natura 2000 territories, all of which present a variety of natural and cultural heritage values and varying levels of the dynamic of attraction as a tourism destination. As a result of the outcome of this study, a complete model for the development of ecotourism in Latvia has been drafted. This model provides recommendations for the sustainable development of ecotourism while simultaneously lessening anthropogenic load. It also promotes the active participation of local government in the entire planning process, thus facilitating Latvia as a significant ecotourism destination within the overall international tourism market. The existing study also provides an agenda for the possibility of positioning the enterprise of ecotourism in Latvia as a field of further scientific research and for the development of a certified program of study at the tertiary level.
