Evaluation of interspecific interaction between Encarsia lutea and Eretomocerus near mundus, the parasitoids of cotton whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) with stage preference and host discrimination

Studies were carried out at CABI Biosciences Pakistan Centre, Rawalpindi to evaluate the stage preference and host discrimination by the both species separately as well as together in comparative situation. Cotton, brinjal and okra were tested for stage preference as host plants by the parasitoids. Associations of both species were found to be highly positive on third instar of whitefly. Parasitism rates on different instars indicated that interaction between species and host instars were significantly different. Highest number of parasitized by En. lutea and Er. near mundus was on third instar having 48.5% and 21%, respectively. The development period of both species on different instars was found to be highly significant. On early instars the development period was relatively longer than later instars of both species.
