A study was conducted to find out the most resistant varieties in sugarcane to the borers infestation at Yousaf Sugar Mills Ltd. at Shahpur Sargodha, Pakistan in 2003 and 2004. For this purpose, ten sugarcane genotypes including CO1148, CP. 71-3002, CP.43-33, BL-4, BL-162, Triton, CP-77-400, BF-129, L-116 and COL-54 were selected during spring at Yousaf Sugar Mills Farm. The data on the infestation of sugarcane borers including Scirpophaga excerptalis (Walker) and Chilo infuscatellus Snellen were collected on monthly basis from May 2003 to February 2004. Highest percent mean infestation of the top borers recorded on COL- 54, L-116 and CP-71-3002 was 15.19, 13.01 and 11.38%, respectively. While lowest mean infestation of top borer was 5.38, 6.67 and 7.78% on BF-162, Triton and CP. 77-400, respectively. Highest mean percent infestation for the stem borer was 10.54, 9.12 and 8.82 % on COL-54, CP-71-3002 and CO-1148, respectively. While lowest mean infestation of the stem borer was 4.58, 5.19 and 5.96% on BF-162, CP-43-33 and L-116, respectively. So BF-162 is more resistant to both top borer and stem borer infestation while COL-54 is than more susceptible variety to the infestation of top borer and stem borer.
