In this article, we examine the attractiveness of Slovak regions in tourism in terms of demand among Polish residents, which is one of the most important Slovak target markets. We evaluate both secondary and primary sources of data. We compare the visit rate of Slovak regions with the potential of Polish market (the size of the Polish population) and also relate the perception Polish respondents have of Slovakia with the perception of an ideal destination for given target market. The analysis of satisfied and potential demand suggests that as tourists, the Poles prefer to travel into nearby regions with mountainous relief and opportunities for sport and recreation activities. There are many possibilities to increase the visit rate of Slovak regions, but also to improve the perception of Slovakia, in particular by adapting and innovating tourism products and their prices, quality, distribution and marketing communication.
