Population dynamics of root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne sp.) in guava fields was determined in the year 2009. Soil samples were collected from the rhizosphere of healthy and declining guava trees in Sampran District, Nakhon Pathom Province. The number of infective juveniles (IJs) of root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne sp.) per 100 grams of soil fluctuated depending on seasonal environment. In the winter from November to February, the average number of IJs of both healthy and declining guava trees were medium (42.98 IJs), and decreased to 19.17 IJs in the summer (March to May). The highest population was found in the rainy season, 48.90 IJs, from June to October. The average number of IJs for all year round in the declining guava trees was highly significantly different from that in the healthy trees. The population density of IJs in the declining trees was greater than that in the healthy trees. The results from this study will be used to select the duration time for controlling root-knot nematodes, beginning in the summer before the rainy season is the most appropriate time for eradicating initial population of root-knot nematodes in the soil.
