Purpose of this study was to examine karyotypes of five cyprinid fishes, including Bangana devdevi, Osteobrama alfrediana, Systomus stoliczkanus, Oxygaster anomalura and Aspidoparia morar in Thailand. Chromosome preparations for karyotype analysis were obtained from kidneys cells and gill epithelial tissues. The results of this study revealed that all of cyprinid fishes under study possessed the same diploid chromosome number of 50. Their karyotypes were as follows: B. devdevi had 10 metacentric (m) +8 submetacentric (sm) +7 acrocentric (t) pairs with the arm number (NF) of 86. O. alfrediana possessed 12 m + 11 sm + 2t pairs and NF=96. S. stoliczkanus had 12m + 10sm + 3t pairs and NF=94. Ox. anomalura had 10m + 77sm + 8t pairs and NF=84. A. morar possessed 10m + 10sm + 3 subtelocentric (st) + 2t pairs and NF=90.
