The new Sudan grass hybrid Endje 1 is created in the Agricultural Institute – Shumen via individual selection for productivity and resistance to diseases from a cross between a local population of Sweet sorghum North-Eastern Bulgaria origin and stabilized Sudan grass population of the Agricultural Institute – Shumen. The candidate-variety has been tested in the NAV T during 2007-2011, and in 2010 has been certified as a new variety of Sudan grass Patent No10918/30.12.2010. The variety combines high productivity with stable potential for significant grow-up from 2-4 swaths in the stage between brooming and mass flowering. Endje 1 is resistant to leaf diseases and brands. It has standing, moderately thick and rich stems, with a favorable part of the leaves in the green mass, resistant to lodging. The dry matter varies from 30 to 50% depending on the phase of development during harvesting. From the beginning of brooming to the mass flowering, the durine content in the green mass of the hybrid is insignificant. The new variety won Gold medal of the Union of Inventors in Bulgaria for innovations.
