Due to the high oil content and quality, canola has gained public attention in providing edible oil in Iran. Therefore, growers are increasingly being interested in cultivation of canola in various parts of Iran such as Haji Abad in Hormozgan province. Because the canola is being cultivating in Iran recently and has not been experienced in a large scale previously, there is not enough documented information about various aspects of growth and cultivation of canola in Iran especially in Haji Abad region. One of the main inputs for cultivation of canola is the amount of water needed for optimum growth of canola. Therefore, in order to determine water requirement of canola, a three-year field experiment was conducted in Agricultural research station of Haji Abad located at 165 km from the north of Bandar Abbas. A drainable lysimeter was installed in the center of a 4-hectare canola (Hyula-401) field and used for determining weekly water requirement or evapotranspiration of the canola using water balance equation. Results showed that evapotranspiration was 505.5, 577.3 and 482.0 mm for the first, second and third year of the experiment. Average evapotranspiration for the canola was determined as 519.9 mm. At the end of each year, water use efficiency (WUE) for the canola was also calculated. WUE for the first, second and third year of the experiment was respectively 0.65, 0.52 and 0.55 kg yield per m-3 of consumed water which resulted in an average WUE of 0.56 kg m-3.
