Evaluation of the applicability of the controlled deterioration vigour test for determination of influence of seed vigour on field performance of oil-seed rape(Brassica napus L.) cultivars

In order to evaluation of the applicability of controlled deterioration test for study of seed quality and seedling field emergence and establishment estimation of three oil-seed rape(Brassica napus L. var. olifera) cultivars, a laboratory and field experiment at two year conducted. Therefore by sampling of three oil-seed rape cultivars SLM046, Orient and Zarfam(Regent×Cobra) seed production fields, seed samples those have 35, 25 and 15% moisture content provided and at laboratory, controlled deterioration test by 40, 45 and 50ºC and 12, 24 and 48 hours durations conducted. Final germination percent and some related to seed viability and vigour traits like as normal and abnormal seedlings number, mean time to germination, mean daily germination, daily germination speed, coefficient of velocity of germination, seedling length, primary root and shoot length, seedling fresh and dry weight and seedling vigour index measured. Analysis of data evaluate that except of coefficient of velocity of germination other traits affected by deterioration treatments and Orient cultivar seed at 50 ºC for 48 hours have lowest viability, seedling vigour and related traits. Then deteriorated seeds planted in field and some characters like as seedling emergence speed, field emergence index, seedling height, seedling fresh and dry weight and seedling vigour index determined. Analysis of data showed that only seedling fresh weight and seedling vigour index affected by effect of year and cultivar and temperature and duration of seed deterioration for all studied characters very significant. Also, Orient cultivar seeds those deteriorated by 50 ºC for 48 hours have lowest field emergence speed and index. Study of correlation of laboratory and field characters showed that expect of seedling fresh weight, other field traits correlated to final germination percent and other laboratory traits. This research results evaluate that application of this method of controlled deterioration test have good applicability for estimation studied oil-seed rape cultivars seed quality and seedling field emergence and establishment
