The subject matter of the research is the Baltic Sea coastal landscape identity, identification of its forming elements and factors as well as preservation and adaptation of the landscape identity in the context of present development possibilities in Latvia. The objective of the research: to provide theoretical and methodological grounds for the identification, preservation and adaptation of the Baltic Sea coastal landscape identity-forming elements in the context of sustainable landscape development. The tasks performed during the research in order to achieve the objective: (1) to define the preconditions for the landscape identity forming and perception; (2) to determine the stages of development of the Baltic Sea coast and factors influencing the landscape identity; (3) to elaborate a methodology for identification of the Baltic Sea coastal landscape identity-forming elements; (4) to formulate the main present coastal landscape identity-forming elements, to determine the necessary set of tools for the Baltic Sea coastal landscape identity preservation and adaptation; (5) to determine the influence of regulatory documents on coastal landscape identity changes; (6) to explore contemporary international experience in sustainable coastal landscape planning, development and management issues.

لاتفيا. Pētījuma mērķis: sniegt teorētiski metodisko pamatojumu Baltijas jūras piekrastes ainavu identitāti veidojošo elementu atpazīšanai, saglabāšanai un adaptācijai ilgtspējīgas ainavas attīstības kontekstā. Mērķa sasniegšanai darbā risinātie uzdevumi: 1) definēt ainavas identitātes veidošanās un uztveres priekšnoteikumus; 2) noteikt Baltijas jūras piekrastes attīstības posmus un ainavu identitāti ietekmējošos faktorus; 3) izstrādāt Baltijas jūras piekrastes ainavu identitāti veidojošo elementu atpazīšanas metodiku; 4) formulēt galvenos piekrastes ainavu identitātes veidojošos elementus mūsdienās, noteikt nepieciešamāko rīku kopumu Baltijas jūras piekrastes ainavu identitātes saglabāšanai un adaptācijai; 5) noteikt normatīvo dokumentu ietekmi uz piekrastes ainavas identitātes izmaiņām; 6) izpētīt mūsdienu starptautisko pieredzi piekrastes ainavu ilgtspējīgas plānošanas, attīstības un apsaimniekošanas jautājumos.
