The present experiment evaluates the effects of corn and barley and replacement of differentvels (0, 25, 50, 75, 100%) of barley with corn, on the performance and meat quality of common carp (Cyprinus carpio, L). In a completely randomized block designs, 300 grower fishes with an average body weight of 70 :!: 9 (gr), were divided into 15 groups, 20 fishes per group. Each diet was assigned to triplicate groups of fish for eight weeks. The experime!2t\\Vl.s carried out in ':~rthen pond, using 15 .pens, each contaning. a .group. of 20 fishes. Criteria measured were body weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and biochemical composition of body including moisture, fat, protein and ash content (in evicerated carcass and muscle). Increasing the level of barley in the diet, up to 50% substitution, caused increase in body weight, SGR and FCR. However, hundred precent substitution of corn with barley improved FCR. Protein and ash content of the evicer ated carcass was not influenced by the substitution of barley in the diet. Chemical cornpost ion of muscle. was also not significantly influenced by the experimental diets. But substitution of barley up to 50% level in the diet caused. Considerable increase in the fat content of muscle.
