The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of dehulled soybean meal in replace of fish meal on the growth performance, maturity and carcass traits of Taiwan country chickens. Three hundreds and thirty day-old broiler chicks were randomly assigned to 5 treatments: 1).100% plant protein (A). 2).(A)+Met and Lys till 100%. 3).(A)+Met, Lys and Thr till 120%. 4).80% plant protein with 20% animal protein (B). 5).(B)+Met, Lys and Thr till 120%. There were 22 chicks in each replicate and 3 replicates in each treatment. Feed intake, body weight gain and feed efficiency were collected at 4, 6, 11 and 15 weeks of age. The carcass traits and comb weight of male chicken were evaluated at 15 weeks of age. The result showed that treatment 2 and 5 tend to better on feed intake, body weight gain and feed efficiency. The carcass traits were not different (P0.05) among each treatment. The weights of testes were significantly heavier (p0.05) in treatments 2 and 5. The weight of rooster`s comb were significantly heavier (P0.05) for treatments 2 and 4 at 15 weeks of age. Therefore, the source of dietary protein in chicken, either from plant protein or animal protein, was not crucial, but was necessary to supplement dietary amino acids to meet the nutrient requirements of chicken.
